Join us as a Technical Apprentice

Go-Ahead is recruiting Technical Apprentices across the UK and Ireland to support one of the largest and most diverse transport fleets in the industry.

With more than 7,000 buses, coaches and support vehicles operating around the clock, our technicians play a critical role in maintaining performance, safety and reliability. This apprenticeship provides structured, industry-leading training while you earn, building the technical skills needed for a long-term career in transport engineering.

Technical apprentices

Learn while you earn

From day one, you’ll gain hands-on experience and develop transferable mechanical and electrical skills used across modern vehicle technologies.

We invest in our people by providing:

  • Modern training facilities

  • Up-to-date tooling and systems

  • Clear development and progression routes

Successful apprentices will complete their training and move into technician roles within Go-Ahead operating companies.

National engineering academies

Go-Ahead London apprentices begin with an 8-week placement at Go-Ahead’s Engineering Academy, located in Camberwell, London.

This focuses on core skills, safety and work instructions, ensuring you enter garage workshops with confidence. Travel, accommodation, and breakfast/dinner are fully funded, with training delivered Monday to Friday.

You’ll be supported throughout by experienced mentors, at the academies and in your operating company, who understand the demands of a modern technical apprenticeship.

Training and progression

College training is delivered at our academies in partnership with the S&B Automotive Academy, an industry-leading provider of automotive education.

During your first year, you’ll return for additional extended training blocks, completing practical tasks such as engine strip-down and rebuilds to strengthen your technical understanding.

As part of your development, you’ll also have the opportunity to gain a full UK driving licence, funded by Go-Ahead.
